If you already have a flair for writing and want to start your freelance career, or need to do a spot of copywriting for your own business, here are some basic rules to apply to your writing, for best results.
Effective headlines are crucial. The attention span of most readers is short, so to capture your audience, use words and phrases relevant to the product which draw in and entices the reader to continue.
Use simple language with words and phrases which will be familiar to you target audience without the need to resort to a dictionary. Short sentences which address the reader personally are more effective than long descriptions or complicated vocabulary, as most readers tend to scan sales copies, rather than read in detail.
Brainstorm by using free online resources such as clip art collections to add to fliers and newsletters, or “clip words” which has free sample of from library of ready-to-use headlines, phrases, and statements. Otherwise, you can find a basic copywriting text at your local book shop or online for valuable advice form expert writers.
Review your copy many times, making adjustments and improvements until you feel that no matter how many times you read it you still feel excited by the message.
Do not focus too much on grammar at the expense of presenting the information in the simplest, most direct way. Rather, speak directly to an imagined prospective buyer.
Focus on the benefits of the product or service you are selling and describe them in the most influential way possible. |
